Extra Credit: Lost! (Due Mon. Oct. 22nd)



Essential Elements of Geography: Environment and Society

Directions:

The theme of human-environment interaction investigates the relationship between people and their environment. How do people use their environment and how does the environment influence how people live? To answer this, students are to demonstrate how environment affects the type of structures people build as homes.

Objective: Build a structure to withstand the outside environment.

Material:  Ready Student
Popsicle Sticks
Glue (do not use krazy glue)/ Hot glue with parental guidance
Leaves

Procedure
1. Design (draw) a model of the building structure to be created. Be sure to consider that this shelter will remain outside for three days to test its ability to withstand the natural environment (swampy). (Design must be included.)
2. Construct your design using material.
3. Take a picture of the finished product before it goes outside and after the three days.
4. Place the structure outside in a secure area. Monitor every day for three days.

5. Write a two paragraph conclusion describing the relationship between your structure and the environment. Explain what improvements would help your structure in the future and how the environment influences how people build their homes. Earn up to 100 pts
